The app is a solid blend of a well-known Stripe and an African M-Pesa system for safe and fast cross-continent mobile transactions. Breaking the space-time continuum is probably as challenging as transferring money to African countries. Most payment systems you are accustomed to are useless there. So, you’re left standing in line at your bank with a lot of verification steps ahead.
To give people a reliable tool for lending a helping hand, we developed the Valley Pay app. The app bridges the gap between continents allowing for money transfers from the US, UK, and Canada to recipients’ mobile wallets in African countries.
Valley Pay shortens the distance between you and your dearest by extending a one-time transfer limit to $1,000. All you need to do is pick a recipient from your contact list. The transaction requires a couple of clicks, and the receiver gets the money right away.
A huge gap remains between African countries and the rest of the world regarding the economy, and technology. As mentioned in the Guardian’s article, the cost of sending money back to Africa is far higher than the global 7,5% average and even reaches 15%.
Our customer’s idea was to build a solution that results in the least amount of effort for users to complete their money transfer. Digging into Africa’s most popular payment systems, we faced the problem that they’re geared for B2B or B2C international transactions. So, it would be impossible to use a single payment service to enable client to client operations. Our architects had to consider options for how to jump over restrictions with the help of third-party integrations.
ABCloudz developers created a unique route for money transfers in three currencies: US dollars, plus Kenyan and Tanzanian shillings. The app comprises Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL as cloud storage, .NET Core for the backend, Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications, SmartAdmin dashboard template for a responsive web app, and Kotlin for Android. It also encompasses a perfect blend of Stripe and African M-Pesa services for mobile money transfers to enable money delivery across continents.
The money is charged by Stripe and delivered to the company’s account in a US bank. As soon as the service provider makes sure the transaction went successfully, he goes for another transaction from the African Safaricom account to the recipient’s account in M-Pesa. We integrated the Safaricom API into the app to make it possible. As a result, despite African’s payment systems only serve for B2C international transactions, the Valley Pay users experience their transactions like direct ones.

Expanding the limit of a $600 one-time transfer to a $999 transfer within the M-Pesa payment system seemed impossible, but we managed to do this by splitting the transaction.
For secure transactions and user safety, we delivered a complex registration process that involves user’s names, emails, and passwords. Once verified, users can send money and track its status or details and the app sends notifications to keep users informed. They can see the exchange rate and the exact amount of money the recipient will get.
Regardless of what it takes for security, all you need to make a transfer is to pick one of the contacts from your phone book, enter the amount of money you want to transfer, and confirm the transaction through email. In the future, the app will give away promo codes for free of charge transactions.
This project made our engineers look at the monetary system from a new angle to make a difference in the way people support their families in countries like Kenya and Tanzania. As a result, the Valley Pay app leverages a blend of the latest technologies to give people a more convenient way to move their money.
Now, users from the US, Europe, and Canada can transfer up to $1,000 in a couple of clicks, using their conventional Stripe system. No more standing in line to confirm your identity with a pile of documents in a hand. It has become easier to support your closest family members with a solution that goes beyond the limits of the technologies.
